The smallest of our ‘black’ tomato offerings, Black Cherry has all the rich flavor of the style while requiring less water than its larger brethren. This variety proved to have great resistance to late blight and bacterial wilt.
To Sow
- Date: Start Indoors: March 1- May 1, Transplant: May 15- June 15
- Planting Depth: ¼ in.
- Special Instructions: Make sure to keep soil temperature above 70 degrees when starting tomato seeds indoors. Keep seed starts close to a radiator or space heater or use a greenhouse heating pad. Do not transplant until nighttime temperatures near 60 degrees consistently.
- Germination Rate: 99%
To Grow
- For Raised Beds: Space plants 18 in. apart with 18 in. between rows, leaving room for trailing plants and trellising.
- For Containers: Grow in a container at least the size of a five-gallon bucket. Needs deep soil and at least 12 in. of lateral space.
